Question

Ok, so heres the deal:  I have an enormous stash of fabric that I could never use up for my own consumption.  Most of it is vintage and pretty nice stuff.  I really like to make what I think are gorgeous children's outfits in unusual combinations.  I cannot seem to give this stuff away.  I have my Etsy shop and sell very little there--I don't know if it is me or the venue (probably both).  I am very reluctant to go out and sell my stuff in person (see: rejection, fear of).  So I started this blog as a way to meet people and maybe make connections but that does not seem to be working.  I am a mediocre blogger and picture taker and not really a very good commenter on other blogs.  These are all traits that don't bother me in my real life (I am hilarious and well spoken out here) but are a detriment to making connections in blogland.

Case in point: this dress is beautiful and if I had a girl who could wear it -- she would (if it killed me).  Do my 3 readers think this is cute?  Would you buy it if you had a size 3 girl child laying around at home?
Any advice for me?  Hmm?  Buck up Pasha! thoughts?

Oh, well, here are my humble thoughts... ;) If I could, I, me myself would wear that dress!! So if I had a little one, they would be in all your wears! Also, I think that, I know you hate this thought I do too, but I think that they need to be in shops... You must go to children's shops locally. I know most of them, and the owners are very kind!! I find making a little catalog to mail them is the best way. They like people to make appointments, they hate walk-ins!! But, I think you have a booming business right at your fingertips! And children's clothing does have to be tried on. Plus the gorgeous fabrics are so much lovelier in person..... So, don't stop, go go go!! Make a little catalog that gives examples. Or call, and ask if you can swing in... I promise, you will be pleasantly surprised!! xo

I happen to think the Etsy market in general is pretty oversaturated with *everything*.

But about the blogging...you really do have to get out there if you want to use it to further any sort of crafting business. I'm afraid it takes a lot of time and effort for most people to build up their blogs and blogging audience.

It's perfectly ok if that isn't for you, but in that case you are going to have to get yourself out there some other way!

Hi, Pasha - wanted to come over and visit your blog - loved seeing all of your thrifted items, esp. all that Pyrex. It's fortunate I have a small house, or I would be buying all the Pyrex I see! We seem to have an abundance of it here in upstate NY. I peeked at your Etsy shop, too - I loved your little girl clothes, esp. those apron dresses. I would definitely have bought those for my daughter, who, at 13, doesn't like anything that's not emblazoned with Hollister and Abercrombie. :( I'm attempting to subscribe to your blog so I can come back ... I'm with you - I find the photography just the worst part of blogging! If the pictures only came out the way I envision them! Will visit again! Barbara at oodles and oodles

geez i miss a couple days of checking on you and you go and post twice!!! make that four readers, haha! i think this is adorable, and yes i would buy it if i had a wee girl. what was the prices on them?? i dont think etsy is a good gauge because people have to know you are out there, and without advertising of some sort, even if its your own big mouth(not meaning you). i say keep commenting on blogs of people that also sew, and find someplace that promotes your stuff with others. i def. would get up the nerve to go to a couple of boutiques, you might just surprise yourself!!! as for something else to go with the outfits as that finishing touch...maybe pair them with a little purse or stuffie(read tiny, and quick)? or add some pretty ribbon or nice lace?? or maybe even like fanciful twist said put out a wee catalog, maybe even with little swatches of fabrics and maybe they could choose some outfits they would like made....

I connected to your blog from Creative Kismet (card swap). I am a total stranger, so here's my input: 1. Put your etsy shop in the top right corner of your blog. 2. Load-up your items for sale, take them to a pretty park, photograph them there (can you find a model?). 3. Your items are WORTH the EFFORT of finding a boutique to showcase their loveliness. 4. Describe them poetically, "created with restored vintage fabrics, specially chosen..." 5. DO NOT GIVE UP!
